Jokulsarlon is a stunning place with endless photographic opportunities, including a black sand beach full of 'diamonds'!

In the Spring of 2019 my wife and I travelled to Iceland for a long weekend to sample the natural wonders of southwestern Iceland. I had always wanted to visit this amazing island with its endless variety of geological features, dramatic landscapes and wildlife. Despite its inclement weather and harsh environment it is a photographer's paradise. Even on a trip lasting only 4-5 days it is possible to photograph geysers erupting at dawn, stand under towering waterfalls, soak in bright blue thermal springs, drive through vast volcanic landscapes, trek to the base of ancient glaciers and photograph arctic wildlife in unique natural settings.
The trip was truly awesome, if a bit short and plagued by wet weather. The stand out highlight was definitely the glacial lagoon and black sand beaches of Jokulsarlon on the south coast. This place is stunning, especially at first light, and the photographic opportunities are endless. I would have been more than happy to spend a week in this location to photograph the mountains, glaciers, icebergs and wildlife. Sadly I only had one day and my new portfolio showcases some of the images taken.
COMING SOON - Enjoy the portfolio and check out the full Iceland Gallery.
